As you may have heard, the Alumni Relations office is planning a hybrid, month-long “Alumni Month” celebration in lieu of the traditional Alumni Week.
We expect to learn more details about the events within the next month or two, and we’ll keep you updated here and on our class Instagram.
Stay safe, everyone!
Here’s a copy of the email sent on January 29:
Aloha mai e nā pua a Pauahi,
Last year, as the global pandemic was unfolding around us, we made the difficult decision to cancel Alumni Week 2020 knowing that so many of our alumni would miss out on their opportunity to see classmates, family, friends, and to travel home. However, last June, we were able to expand our programming to a month-long celebration, reaching alumni around the globe. We were humbled by our alumni who supported this endeavor and gave selflessly of their time, talent, and treasure to kōkua in our efforts.
This year, our kuleana to our ‘ohana to keep them safe has not wavered. We hope that efforts around the world to slow the transmission of the virus, including to #maskup, socially distance, and avoid large gatherings, will put us on the path to celebrating with each other once again as soon as it is safe to do so.
With that in mind, we are pleased to offer another month-long alumni celebration for 2021 featuring a hybrid approach, which includes in-person events on Kapālama campus for our celebrating classes, and virtual events and experiences open to all our alumni ‘ohana. Continuing last year’s model, each week will offer a different theme and/or group.
Week One: To celebrate the classes ending in “0” and “5” as we had intended to last year, we will hold a drive-thru lū‘au experience to honor them and kick-off the month.
Week Two: will feature a drive-thru lū‘au for the celebrating classes ending in “1” and “6”.
Week Three: will celebrate our young alumni with a drive-thru event.
Week Four: will be dedicated to our kūpuna and feature a mea ‘ai demonstration.
Week Five: will honor our classmates who have passed in a virtual memorial chapel.
And throughout the month we will share different resources and videos highlighting our ‘āina and partners through Loina Kamehameha.
Although this may not be the celebration you had imagined, nor the trip home that you have waited for, our commitment to each one of you includes experiences, programs, and events to help you stay connected and engaged with your Kamehameha ‘ohana and each other.
In the weeks and months to follow, we will be announcing our full schedule of events, drive-thru and virtual, at www.ksbe.edu/alumni/alumnireunion/.
If you have any questions, please email alumni@ksbe.edu or call us at (808) 534-8283.
Please continue to keep each other safe and in your prayers.
As always, we invite you to connect with the reunion committee:
